The upcoming tvN weekend k-drama Queen of Tears has revealed character details and dynamics.
Apart from Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, Park Sung Hoon, and Kwak Dong Yeon, the K-drama has a star-studded lineup of veteran actors in supporting roles, including Kim Gab Soo, Lee Mi Sook, Jung Jin Young, Na Young Hee, Kim Jung Nan, Jeon Bae Soo, Hwang Young Hee, Kim Do Hyun, and Jang Yoon Ju.
Kim Gab Soo (Hospital Playlist, Mr. Sunshine, The K2) takes on the role of Hong Man Dae, Hong Hae In’s (Kim Ji Won) grandfather and the chairman of the Queens Group. Lee Mi Sook (The Law Cafe, The Empire) plays Mo Seul Hee, who lives with Hong Man Dae. Hong Man Dae, who believes that he can make even ghosts grind a millstone if he has money, is a greedy man. He is as suspicious as he is wealthy and trusts only Mo Seul Hee among his family members.
Mo Seul Hee, known as the “Mother Teresa of Queens,” harbors no greed for the assets or the status of the Queens Group family.
Jung Jin Young (Shadow Detective Season 2, May It Please the Court) and Na Young Hee (The Legend of the Blue Sea, My Love from the Star, Good Doctor) play Hong Beom Jun, Hae In’s father, and Kim Seon Hwa, her mother, respectively.
While Hong Beom Jun, the vice-chairman of the Queens Group, is deeply attached to his daughter, Kim Seon Hwa cares more about her son Hong Soo Cheol, who is dominated by his bossy sister.
Kim Jung Nan (Reborn Rich, Mouse, Tale of the Nine-Tailed, Crash Landing on You, SKY Castle, Who Are You: School 2015) transforms into Hong Beom Ja, Hong Hae In’s aunt, who is scarier than a tiger. Having gone through two divorces, she considers marriage to be hell and is now lonely.
On the other hand, the family of Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), who married into the Queens Group family and became their son-in-law, has completely different family dynamics from the Queens Group.
Jeon Bae Soo (Daily Dose of Sunshine, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, All of Us Are Dead, Mr. Queen) and Hwang Young Hee (Daily Dose of Sunshine, The First Responders, The Law Cafe) transform into Baek Du Gwan, the village chief of Yongduri, and Jeon Bong Ae, respectively.
Baek Du Gwan, Hyun Woo’s father and the village chief of Yongduri, struggles to turn the quiet rural village of Yongduri into a tourist destination.
While her husband reforms the village, Jeon Bong Ae takes care of the household chores and manages everything from farming to orchard work.
Kim Do Hyun (Gyeongseong Creature, Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramun, Reborn Rich) and Jang Yoon Ju (Veteran 2) play Hyun Woo’s older brother, Baek Hyun Tae, and older sister Baek Mi Sun, respectively.
They run a boxing gym and a beauty salon in Yongduri and live under their parents’ roof. Although they feel strangely sorry towards their younger sibling, whom they have rarely seen since he married into a conglomerate family, they reluctantly seek help from Hyun Woo due to their circumstances.
Queen of Tears is set to premiere in March. The release date is yet to be unveiled. Stay tuned!
