Kim Go Eun Wins Marie Claire Award at the Marie Claire Asia Star Awards 2023

The fashion magazine Marie Claire Korea hosted the 2023 Marie Claire Asia Star Awards and awarded the Marie Claire Award to actress Kim Go Eun.

The Marie Claire Award was established to support the endeavors of female filmmakers in the hope of seeing strong and independent female characters. It is an annual award presented to the actress who has played the most extraordinary character in cinema productions. 

This year, the Marie Claire Award went to actress Kim Go Eun. Kim Go Eun received tremendous love from the audience for her role as Sul Hee, an intelligence officer in the film Hero this year, thanks to her exceptional acting and singing talent. Throughout her career, she has consistently impressed audiences and critics by expanding her horizons through diverse roles and creative endeavors, making her a deserving recipient of the Marie Claire Award. The award was personally presented by Park Yeon Kyung, the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire Korea.

The Marie Claire Asia Star Awards is jointly organized by the global fashion magazine Marie Claire and the Busan International Film Festival. Additionally, it is sponsored by the renowned fashion and culture brand Chanel. The event closely follows and encourages the activities of filmmakers in Asia, and is, thereby, promoting unity among Asian filmmakers while being at the forefront of global fashion and culture.

Meanwhile, Hero follows the story of An Jung Geun (Jung Sung Hwa), a prominent Korean independence activist, and Seol Hee (Kim Go Eun), a court lady for Queen Myeongseong. Following the assassination of Queen Myeongseong by the Japanese, Seol Hee becomes a part of the Korean independence struggle. She adopts the guise of a geisha and gains the favor of Ito Hirobumi, the Japanese Resident-General of Korea. When Ito Hirobumi journeys to Manchuria, Seol Hee accompanies him. Through Seol Hee, An Jung Geun comes to know of Ito Hirobumi’s travel plans. Based on this knowledge, he schemes to assassinate Hirobumi Ito for Korean independence. Hero is based on the musical Youngwoong.
