Character stills of Nam Joo Hyuk, who plays Kim Ji Yong, a model police academy student during the day and a Vigilante at night, have been unveiled.
By day, Kim Ji Yong is a dedicated police academy student, upholding the law. But by night, he transforms into a Vigilante, taking justice into his own hands and punishing criminals who have evaded the clutches of law.
Kim Ji Yong’s determination to become a vigilante stems from a tragic incident from his childhood when his mother fell victim to a brutal assault by a neighborhood thug. Kim Ji Yong hoped for justice from the law, but the culprit was granted clemency and released. Dissatisfied and angry, Kim Ji Yong decided to take matters into his own hands and pass judgment on criminals whom the law can’t or won’t punish.
Actor Nam Joo Hyuk, venturing into the action genre for the first time in his career through Vigilante, spared no effort in performing action scenes. The actor received weight training, boxing, judo, and martial arts training.
As a police academy student, Kim Ji Yong appears as an ordinary university student in his 20s, not much different from his peers. But, when he transforms into a vigilante, he wears a hoodie and exudes a dark aura.
Commenting on the reason behind playing Kim Ji Yong, Nam Joo Hyuk stated, “I really liked the original webtoon Vigilante, and I really wanted to play the role of Kim Ji Yong”.
He continued, “Since it’s my first action production, I discussed a lot about the details with the martial arts team while filming. The feeling when wearing a police uniform was quite different from when wearing the vigilante outfit. When portraying the vigilante, I acted with a bit more darkness and seriousness”.
Yoo Ji Tae, who plays the role of a team leader of a police investigation team chasing the vigilante, lauded Nam Joo Hyuk, describing him as an actor endowed with various attributes that will bring him global recognition in the world of cinema.
Vigilante will be exclusively available on Disney+ starting November 8.
