Actress Kim Ji Won comments about her character and working with Kim Soo Hyun in tvN’s Queen of Tears.

Queen of Tears tells the story of Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), the chaebol heiress of the Queens Group family, and Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), her husband and the legal director of Queens Group.

Commenting about why she chose the K-drama, Kim Ji Won said, “I wanted to portray the life of Hong Hae In, who may seem cold but is lovely, strong but delicate, and not one-dimensional. I thought I could take on a new challenge with a role that has a different vibe from [the characters of] my previous works. I hope to hear people say, ‘This role suits you well.’”

About her character Hong Hae In, she said, “My first impression was that she is a cold and straightforward person who has lived without lacking anything. As Hae In is used to marching forward while only looking straight ahead and is clumsy when it comes to repairing relationships while tending to her own wounds, her scars and loneliness felt even deeper and, at the same time, sadly pitiful.”

Regarding her character’s flashy style, she said, “We thought about how Hae In’s flashy style would not simply be a representation of her wealth but match well with her circumstances and emotions. The worse her mood, the flashier her clothes.”

Explaining the relationship between Hong Hae In and Baek Hyun Woo, the actress said, “Like the North and South poles, they seem to be opposites and push each other away, but only when they are together can they become complete and move forward while deciding on a direction.”

Expressing affection for her co-star Kim Soo Hyun, she said, “Actor Kim Soo Hyun creates a really comfortable and bright atmosphere on set. Thanks to him, I was able to act well.”

Queen of Tears will premiere on March 9. The K-drama will be available to stream on Netflix.
